Betsey Grupp is a New York City native with over a decade of experience in Creative Producing and a lifelong background in screenwriting, music composition and performing arts.

With many intersecting interests, Betsey has engaged in professional and educational topics including social sciences, art therapy, music composition, social entrepreneurship and criminal justice.  Betsey originally pursued a career in social work; she held a position in Youth Advocacy prior to finding her passion for filmmaking.

After earning a screenwriting certificate at The New School, Betsey graduated with her MFA in Creative Production from Columbia University.  As a writer/producer, Betsey has made over a dozen films and played key roles in the making of several others.

Grupp's motivation to impact social justice reforms have been a key motivator. Unbound by genre and excited by challenges, she wholeheartedly believes that creating empathetic narratives can lead to connecting individuals and inspiring change.

Betsey's drive to advance her knowledge led to one of her most ambitious undertakings:  producing her first international film in India.  Upon winning a competitive grant, Betsey worked alongside the director from script development to distribution. Facing many upward battles, Betsey was able to navigate the system, which led to the completion of one of her proudest accomplishments.  Currently, Aleeya has played in a half a dozen festivals and continues to circulate in the festival stream.

Presently, Grupp is producing and directing her first feature documentary in rural Maine.  Transitions is about a 50 year old married woman who uprooted herself and wife in order to transition from male to female.  This film portrays the intersection of her experience, community transformation in rural America and the emotional journey her daughter takes through processing her father's "disappearance".  While continuing to work towards the feature version, the short version of Transitions is on schedule to debut in festivals in the spring of 2023.

Alongside creative production, Grupp discovered her passion for Production Design.
She has since excelled as the lead Art Director for over seven films.  Betsey utilizes her background in psychology, combined with visual tone and narrative beats to create the director's vision.

Betsey headed the production design, props and wardrobe department within a range of budgets and spaces.  Applying her experience in Production, Betsey also managed the budget, accounting and coordination of each project. One of her proudest achievements was creating the world for Coronation, a short about a Drag Queen discovering himself.  Coronation is one of several films that Betsey led the design department that went on to win multiple awards at festivals across the country.

As Betsey continues her career in creative production and production design, she plans to continue innovating her methods of story telling, challenging her skillset, building her self-awareness and pushing boundaries.  Her longterm goals including collaborating  with professionals around the world in the making of visual stories and, eventually, to develop a program that allows youths in high risk areas the opportunity to explore and develop skills in various art forms.
